The fitness, health and weight loss industries are awash with warnings about which foods are potentially going to harm your overall health and wellbeing. It’s not hard to find a plethora of articles from professionals in each area who will literally discount any food they feel like for a whole host of reasons. All this does really is leave you wondering what in the world you can actually eat!
So to follow the trend of other ‘fitness gurus’ here’s my ‘Top 3’ foods we should avoid eating, but mine has a little twist to it. I’m not going to sit here and write about why you shouldn’t eat specific foods, I’m not going to use this as a launch pad into scaremongering for various diseases etc. I’m simply going to tell you 3 basic foods to avoid if you are looking to lose weight.
Trigger Foods – Never heard of a trigger food before? A trigger food is one that we have a tendency to over eat. If you did a survey of 100 people I reckon at least 90 of those would have a food they can’t resist (mines chocolate, buy me a bar of chocolate and I’d love you forever). The problem with these foods is we tend to not have an off switch, once we start eating them we won’t stop until it’s gone. This piles the calories in and before you know it you’re gorging on your favourite food all over again.
If you really want to lose weight, and going out to create that calorie deficit, it’s probably better to avoid these foods as much as physically possible. Never say never though… The occasional treat on your maintenance plan would still be allowed.
Foods You Don’t Like – When I say foods you don’t like I really mean foods you hate! I know hate is a strong word but we all have those foods you really do not want to eat under any circumstances. To ensure weight loss results you have to be consistent and eating foods you hate is the quickest way of falling off the bandwagon and back to the foods you love a bit too much.
Go for healthy foods you enjoy and mix with foods you may not like as much but you know you should eat them. This should give you more than enough micronutrients to get great results. Hate all healthy foods? Then try experimenting with various dressings to try and disguise the taste, it is important to take in a variety of healthy foods such as veg.
Foods Your Allergic Too – Now on the face of things this sounds like a no brainer, obviously you won’t be tempted to eat foods that make you uncomfortable or run the risk of putting your life in danger. However this can go a lot deeper than the obvious rashes or life threatening situations.
Be observant of your foods that might disagree with you in terms of energy levels or with your stomach.
Cut these 3 ‘types’ of food out of your diet and you’re already on the road to your personal eating plan.
